Hex Stack

Match three hexes. Don't let a column overflow.

Hex Stack is a dropping puzzle against the clock. Every hex has six neighbours instead of four, so clusters form in directions a square board cannot. Match three or more of one color to clear them. Everything above falls into the gap, and the fall often makes the next match on its own. Wait too long and the drop timer drops the hex for you, and the timer runs faster every minute. Voids block a column for a while, corrupted hexes need four to clear, and new colors join at one minute and at two and a half. The run ends when a column overflows.

How to play

  1. A hex waits on the rail above the board. Move it left or right to pick a column.
  2. Drop it before the drop timer runs out. If the timer empties, the hex drops where it is.
  3. Three or more touching hexes of one color clear, and everything above falls. A fall that makes another match is a chain.
  4. A void blocks its column until its countdown ends. A corrupted hex only clears in a match of four.
  5. The timer speeds up every minute, and a sixth and seventh color join at 1:00 and 2:30.
  6. The run ends when the timer drops a hex into a full column, or when every column is full. Dropping into a full column yourself is simply refused.

Scoring

A clear scores on its size, from 500 for three hexes. Each step of a chain is worth more than the last, up to 12,000 for a big clear at the fourth step. Chains of two or more also earn tickets, and so does landing a hex on a ticket. Every minute you last pays tickets too: 10 for each of the first two minutes, 15 for the next two, then 20, climbing by 5 every two minutes. 2x Score doubles every clear for the rest of the run.

Tips

  • Drop early. The timer only decides for you when you wait.
  • Set up the fall: a hex that lands next to its color after a clear is how chains start.
  • A column whose top slot glows red has one row left. Clear near it before the timer forces a drop there.
