Snap Stack

Stop the block. Build the tower.

Snap Stack is the arcade loop reduced to one input. A block slides along a rail above your tower and you stop it. Whatever hangs past the block below is sheared off, so the next block is that much narrower. Every drop is graded on time, the way a rhythm game grades a hit: PERFECT within about 24 milliseconds, then GREAT and GOOD, with EARLY or LATE so you know which way you missed. Five PERFECTs in a row win back some width, and the purple and gold blocks pay a ticket or a power orb only on a PERFECT. The climb goes somewhere: from the launch pad at dusk, up through the cloud layer and the stratosphere into deep space, and the music climbs with you, speeding up as the block does.

How to play

  1. A block slides back and forth on a rail above the tower.
  2. Press Space, click or tap to drop it.
  3. Any part hanging past the block below is cut away, and the next block is that width.
  4. Land five PERFECTs in a row to win back some width.
  5. The run ends when you miss the tower completely or the block gets too thin to land on.

Scoring

Each landed block scores 10 points for every percent of width it keeps, so a full-width block is worth 1,000. Every PERFECT in a row adds another 10%, and a GREAT or GOOD ends the streak. Supercharge (fill the meter with five PERFECTs on gold blocks) turns the tower gold for eight seconds, doubles every drop and pulls near misses onto PERFECT, and the 2x Score power-up doubles it again. Every five PERFECTs in a row, every ten floors and every purple block pays tickets.

Tips

  • There is no input lag to lead: press the moment the edges line up. EARLY or LATE under the grade tells you which way to adjust.
  • The PERFECT window is measured in time, not pixels, so a faster block is harder to read but no harder to land perfectly.
  • From 25 high the block eases in and out, slow at the ends of its rail and fast over the tower. Stop counting and watch the edges.
  • Purple and gold blocks only pay on a PERFECT, so they are worth the attempt even when you are narrow.
  • Waiting it out does not work: after six seconds the block speeds up at every turn until you drop it.
